What Monmouth families should know

If your child lights up when a song comes on in the car, Rockit Academy is worth a look. It’s a Monmouth County live-music education program based at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft that combines private instruction with band rehearsals, then finishes each session with a professionally run concert at real venues (not a cafeteria recital). Rockit’s website says students ages 8 and up can enroll, and the program includes both private lessons and group band work.

Why this matters for families

Lots of kids take lessons—the harder part is learning how to play with other people. Rockit’s model is built around that: auditioning, joining a band, rehearsing a set list, then playing a show after 6–8 weeks. According to Rockit’s session overview, each band rehearses 2–3 songs and performs at a professional venue with full sound and lighting. Rockit’s session description is especially helpful if your child wants a clear goal (“we’re working toward a show”) rather than open-ended weekly lessons.
