Business Spotlight
Monmouth Business Spotlight: Rockit Academy in Lincroft
A live-music school on Brookdale’s Lincroft campus where kids (8+) learn, rehearse in bands, and perform real shows at local venues.
What Monmouth families should know
If your child lights up when a song comes on in the car, Rockit Academy is worth a look. It’s a Monmouth County live-music education program based at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft that combines private instruction with band rehearsals, then finishes each session with a professionally run concert at real venues (not a cafeteria recital). Rockit’s website says students ages 8 and up can enroll, and the program includes both private lessons and group band work.
Why this matters for families
Lots of kids take lessons—the harder part is learning how to play with other people. Rockit’s model is built around that: auditioning, joining a band, rehearsing a set list, then playing a show after 6–8 weeks. According to Rockit’s session overview, each band rehearses 2–3 songs and performs at a professional venue with full sound and lighting. Rockit’s session description is especially helpful if your child wants a clear goal (“we’re working toward a show”) rather than open-ended weekly lessons.
What they offer
- Audition-based band program with four sessions per year (fall, winter, spring, summer). Rockit’s program page
- Band rehearsals: after acceptance, students are assigned to at least one band; bands rehearse together and prepare a set. Rockit’s session outline
- Private instruction across instruments (vocals, guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, and more). Rockit’s homepage
- Performance opportunities at local venues (Rockit lists shows at places like Asbury Lanes and other area venues). Rockit’s events list
- Scholarships + community service through the Rockit Live Foundation. Rockit’s homepage

Verify before you commit
Any kids’ program can look great online. Here are a few parent-to-parent checks that make booking smoother:
- Ask what’s required for the audition. Clarify songs/scales, whether beginners can still be placed, and how they handle kids who are anxious the first time.
- Confirm the weekly time commitment. Rockit notes it includes band rehearsals and private instruction; ask how often each happens and whether times are fixed or change mid-session. Rockit’s program details
- Understand expectations for practice at home. A great program will give your child a realistic practice plan (and not make your household miserable).
- Ask about supervision and safety. Who is present during rehearsals? What’s the drop-off/pick-up procedure? Are there breaks and water access?
- Get the full cost picture up front. Rockit lists an audition fee, a per-session program fee, and a monthly private-instruction cost. Rockit’s pricing section
